give your kids the gift of chess

make a bond they will never forget

start your journey to the beauty of chess

chess is beautiful in many aspects, but for someone who has no clue about it, it might be hard to see how the concept of art could fit in playing “just” a board game (at least it was hard to me). I started watching games and tried to innerstand patterns, until I bumped into the beautiful games from the Romantic era with brave gambits and crazy openings, as well as other modern chess players with attractive attacking styles that showed me how there’s levels of beauty all through the game, moves and even the thought process behind them. it tickled my brain in a way that made me had a deep dive into the topic, taking multiple in person and online lessons and comparing teaching styles from different parts of the world. when I learned chess I was already an experienced educator, so at the same time I learned it, I kept in my mind the goal to understand it in a way to teach it to kids or beginners, with a lot of help from my experience with classical music education.

I can’t recall the number of times I’ve heard people’s stories of first playing chess with their parents or grandparents. It somehow becomes a core memory for the kids and grandkids, sometimes inspiring them to play it seriously and others just remaining as a beautiful part of childhood and a fun skill they’ll always be able to go back to. I’ll help you understand the game in a way you’ll be able to teach your kids and become better with them.

Hi! I’m lio, a life-long arts and languages teacher. I started teaching piano in 2006 when I was 19 years old; fast forward to today, I’ve taught over 100+ students Spanish, French, Portuguese, and more recently chess, where I’ve had success helping people understand and appreciate the art in the game, thus quickly becoming intermediate players. I teach chess the same way I teach piano, in a way designed for you to enjoy its beauty, be able to create with it and use it to connect with your loved ones.
